Peru Central School District works to keep students engaged during remote learning through eSports
A statement of the Peru Central School District
Over the past 2 years, the District has researched the proper implementation of an effective eSports program. Through conversations with providers like PlayVS and NASEF and Local Colleges/Universities like Plattsburgh State, Canton, and Paul Smith’s, Peru is looking to simulate the collegiate-type atmosphere that surrounds eSports play.
Students will compete on teams and represent the District through competitions and tournaments that run statewide while completing advanced coursework in areas of cybersecurity, video game design and coding/computer science.
The District has partnered with Amesite to provide online coursework to all participating students. This coursework is designed to provide students with opportunities that are not traditionally offered in the “normal” school setting. Students will practice and compete with teammates 2-3 days a week, and complete coursework on their “off” days.
