St. Augustine’s Parish has a new deacon

Jonathan Votraw of St. Augustine’s Parish in Peru was ordained a deacon by Bishop Robert J. Cunningham on Sunday, September 19th at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg. Votraw was one of twelve men from the Diocese of Ogdensburg ordained by Bishop Cunningham. Votraw joins Deacon George Benson in service to St. Augustine’s. Rev. Alan Shob, Pastor of St. Augustine’s Parish, was present to vest Deacon Votraw with his alb and stole signifying the office of deacon.
The newly ordained deacons began their course of study in 2005. Their course of study include theology, scripture, canon law, public speaking, spirituality, liturgy and homiletics which were taught both online and at Wadhams Hall in Ogdensburg. The St. Augustine’s Parish community held a reception to honor Deacon Votraw on Sunday, September 27th.
