A progress report on the Heyworth Village project

If you’ve driven by the old Heyworth Village location and wondered what was happening down there, it’s just another example of the town’s crews being hard at work. Chad Frechette of the Highway Department is filling-in around the base of the 1836 Heyworth building. The lovely new red roof on the building (color selection by Carol Allen) was partly paid for by a grant through Senator Little’s office.
Mike Farrell, Chad Frechette, Brian Duprey, Tom Rock, Orville Keyes and Scott Houser have been on-site over the past couple of weeks as part of the town’s contribution to an Environmental Protection Fund grant project to develop the site for passive recreation and historic interpretation. So far town crews have trimmed trees, set-out silt fence, removed the old asphalt and cleared out around the base of the building to allow mason Ed Reynolds to re-point the lower section of the building.
It’s thanks to Mike Farrell and the Highway Department crews, and Greg Timmons and his Water and Sewer and Parks crews, who make many of these grant funded projects possible. By fitting the work on these special projects into their regular schedules it allows the town to use their hours and the use of town equipment as a match for state or federal grant funds, instead of cash. Another example of this is the playground project at Little Ausable Park that was completed a couple of years ago.

Town crews will also be helping with the new School St sidewalk and the Little Ausable River Trail, both planned for construction next year. Thank you gentlemen for working so hard and saving us money while we get some great projects accomplished!

Wonderful things are happening in Peru behind the scenes: the Little Ausable River Trail and Heyworth Park are projects that will provide family activities in the heart of Town. Much credit goes to Adele Douglas for administering the grants that allow the projects to move forward with little cost to the town, Town employees for providing the labor and expertise to keep the costs down and ensure that the improvements are made in the best interests of the Town, and the Town Board for approving the projects in the first place. Thank you all!
