“Pumpkin to Compost” Drop-Off on November 6
Each year Americans dispose of 2 billion pumpkins after they have served their purposes adorning our stoops and porches, according to a recent article in Atlantic magazine. Rotting organic material, such as pumpkins and their innards, when buried in a landfill produce methane – a potent greenhouse gas.
AdkAction’s Compost for Good team is announcing three “Pumpkin to Compost” drop-off sites in the North Country to turn those sad droopy frowns to spongy, nutrient dense browns. Simply bring your pumpkin – smashed and mashed will help them break down more quickly – to any of these three locations, and your friendly neighborhood community composters will give them a new life, in about 2-3 months.
