Kathryn signs the letter of intent as her parents Rick and Velvett look on

Peru – Students, faculty, family, and friends gathered in the Peru High School Auditorium this morning to watch high school senior and star bowler Kathryn Bowman sign a Letter of Intent to attend Division I The University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Nebraska Cornhusker Women’s Bowling Team has won eight national championships, the most recent in 2020-21.

High School Principal Matt Berry praised Bowman noting her dedication to her craft, good example to fellow students, and outstanding character. He added, “She’s also one of the nicest girls you’ll ever meet and she’s currently the #1 student in her class.” Berry concluded saying, “Kathryn, you’re just beginning.”

Kathryn’s father, Rick Bowman, who also happens to be the Peru Bowling Coach, thanked the many people associated with her success, especially the Munson family, the proprietors of the North Bowl Lanes in Plattsburgh.  Rick noted that the Bowmans are a bowling family. Kathryn’s interest in bowling began about eleven years of age. Since then, she’s developed her skills through practice, league play at the North Bowl, high school team participation, tournament competition, and working with outstanding coaches. The Bowman family averaged 5,000 miles a year traveling to distant tournaments and coaching sessions. During the past year, they’ve traveled over 6,000 miles.

Kathryn said she doesn’t have any friends or family who live in or near Lincoln, Nebraska, but her brother is four hours away. She’ll undoubtedly be busy competing at the Division I level and majoring in biochemistry. One day she hopes to be a medical researcher.
