STEC LAUNCHES PETITION IN EFFORT TO PREVENT CLOSURE OF GREAT MEADOW

Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) today launched a petition on his official Senate website as part of his effort to prevent the closure of Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock. On July 18, the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) announced that the facility will be shuttered in November. As a consequence of this announcement, it’s expected that nearly 600 good-paying jobs will leave Washington County.
Since the closure was first announced, Stec has written to and personally met with DOCCS Commissioner Martuscello concerning this closure. He’s launching the petition as a way for the public to make its voice heard on this vital issue.
“I’m proud to be a voice for our correction officers and civilian staff; now I’m asking the public to join me in that support,” said Stec. “My staff and I have heard the concern and outrage our communities have over the closure of Great Meadow, and I’ve made sure DOCCS has heard them. With this petition, I’m hopeful our residents can help can send state leaders a strong message that Great Meadow should remain open.”
